My Skincare Must Haves

23502014941_886e830d85_zMy current skin care must haves! I’ve done this one as more of a quick list because skin care for me tends to change more often. I have quite awkward skin thanks to the amount of medication that I need to take to stay upright and also thanks to those wonderfully annoying things that are female hormones! My skin is combination to dry and can quite easily become dehydrated (particularly in winter) no matter how much water I might put into my body but at the same time I also suffer break outs thanks to my aforementioned meds and the many joys of having a womanly cycle (vom!) This leaves me with a bit of a quandary as pretty much all products designed for congested skins or those with breakouts dry it out significantly which is not something I can afford to do as I’ll develop scales your average dragon would probably envy (that’s a whole other rant!). I so wish I could go back in time and tell my 15 year old self to put down that benzoyl peroxide cream because it was making things worse not better! Now I know more about my skin type I am able to better choose products in order to actually help my skin.

Elemis – Pro-Radiance Cream Cleanser. Thicker cream cleansers like this are best if like me you have dryer skin.

Garnier – Micellar Cleansing Water (sensitive). Always handy to have for when you’re having a very lazy day (let’s face it we all have them sometimes!) or to fix make-up mistakes on the fly.

La Roche Posay – Cicaplast. This is a moisturising balm containing vitamin B5 which is fantastic for healing skin. Acne, sunburn, cracked dry skin, chapped skin anything like that this is your bunny. It also provides a good base for make-up so I often use it in the mornings. Fantastic stuff.

Elemis – Pro-Collagen Marine Cream. My night time moisturiser of choice, gentle enough that it doesn’t cause break outs and feels delightful. If necessary at night though I might use Cicaplast instead.

Laura Mercier – Face Polish. This exfoliator strikes a good balance, not too harsh but not half hearted like some either, just about right for me. I do swap and change quite a bit with exfoliators, I’m always looking for something even better!

Soap & Glory – The Righteous Butter. I love the smell of this stuff! So many of their fragrances are frankly addictive aren’t they? I like to use this all over after I bathe or just because.

Dr Jart+ – Dermask Water Jet Vital Hydra Solution. A hydrating sheet mask, makes you look very silly but afterwards your skin feels amazing! Annoyingly the only place you can get these from is Sephora so I order a bunch in one go!

Nuxe – Huile Prodigieuse. A very versatile product to have (you can even use it on your hair!) Shockingly putting oil on your skin is actually a great idea and I always reach for an oil such as this when at my driest during the winter months.

L’Occitane – Shea Butter Lip Balm. I always buy the solid version of this, as it feels nicer on the lips to me. The first time I got this I was very cynical that it could be any better than cheaper products but then I used it for a few weeks and oh boy did I notice a difference! My usually dry cracking winter lips became normal average… well, lips! And I’ve been hooked ever since.

I also like to use a manual facial cleansing brush – like people had in the days before Clarisonic and what-have-you – and a facial loofah pad from The Body Shop.

Now if only I can keep my medications on a level for a while maybe I won’t have to change my routine too much… ah who am I kidding some sodding doctor will need to meddle with it all before I know it…

Do let me know your thoughts!
