I received a sample of this new brow pencil with this month’s Elle magazine. I was lucky and mine was in shade number two. Unfortunately it’s impossible to see which shade is attached to the magazine you pick up. Number two happens to be just about perfect for my brows so I can give it a thorough test and review for you guys ahead of the full product release later in the month.
The pencil is supposed to be designed so that even the most useless of us can get great brows with it, hence the name ‘Goof Proof’.
The nib is shaped so that one side is thin and pointed for drawing finer lines and one side is thicker for adding more colour or depth. The product twists up so you don’t need to sharpen it.
It will be available in six different shades from the end of the month and the full sized version will have a spoolie on the other end. For me a spoolie is an absolute must for brows and something I’m glad they’ve included on the full size. Fortunately, I have a couple of NYX spoolie brushes already in my collection so I used one of those with this sample.
I’m not the best with a brow pencil and it took me a minute to get the hang of using this. To be honest I wasn’t all that thrilled with my first attempt but do let me know what you think of how they turned out in the comments section.
I think the product its self is a little bit soft – maybe the warm weather we’re having doesn’t help it – so if you have an even slightly heavy hand it’s still very easy to put on too much product even with the pointy side of the nib so do go lightly!
This photo shows my first attempt using the product but after using a spoolie to even it out. The shade is absolutely perfect for me as you can see but I definitely need to learn to be much less heavy handed with it as it’s a lot softer than my usual pencil products. I wouldn’t say it was 100% ‘Goof Proof’ but I’m willing to consider than the current warm temperatures here may not he helping it.
The product did stay in place all day which was worth noting. There’s nothing worse than having to re-do them half way through the day because they’ve rubbed off or smudged!
One thing I noted about the pencil is that it is triangular in shape which makes it easier to hold if you have hypermobile hands like myself. It also prevents it from rolling off your make-up table. Great idea Benefit!
Do let me know in the comments what you think of how my brows turned out using this new product,
