Last, but certainly not least, of June’s beauty boxes is Glossy box and it’s another heavy weight parcel too!
There doesn’t seem to be any mention of a box theme on the card this month at all and we’re back to the classic pink box and well put together matching paper and ribbon. When I opened the box it was packed to the brim this month!
What’s In The Box?
Spa To You, Konjac Sponge, Full Size RRP £6.99
Konjac sponges are a Japanese beauty trend that are becoming more and more popular. They’re made from a root vegetable of the same name so they’re suitable for vegans and completely biodegradable too. They’re a gentle tool for facial cleansing and exfoliate at the same time, the texture is much softer than a loofah and more suited to the delicate facial skin. They do have quite a short life span however, lasting between 1 and 3 months depending on who you ask.
Origins, GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream, 5ml sample
I actually have a full size of this product which I occasionally use in a morning when I’m bleary eyed with sleep! The cream contains caffeine and optical brighteners (mica and titanium dioxide) which between them reflect light and give you an awake look to your skin even when you feel like you could carry on sleeping for another week! On the downside it doesn’t have any SPF so make sure to use some separately.
De Bruyere, Lait Apres Solaire Monoi / After Sun Lotion Monoi, Full Size, RRP £9.48
This is a very pleasant if strongly fragranced lotion. I’m not sure a squeeze tube was really the best method of packing such a thin product though, when I took the lid off the first time some of the product instantly came out before I had even squeezed it! I’m also not convinced something so strongly fragranced would be a good idea to use on already sensitised skin, I think think this may work better as a regular body lotion. This lotion contains coconut oil and is paraben free for those who choose to avoid them.
Ladival, Sun Protection Spray SPF 15, Full size GB say RRP is £19.99 but Boots sell for £13.50
A spray on wide spectrum sun screen, this covers Infrared-A rays as well as the usual UV-A & UV-B. It’s UVA rating is 4 stars so it should provide a roughly equal level of protection against both types of UV rays. It doesn’t smell of very much so is a much more usable sun protection product format for me than last month’s body oil. It is available to buy in higher levels of protection which might be more suited to those of us who are super pale and have a love/hate relationship with the sun!
Emite, Lip & Cheek Tint, Full size RRP £12.50
I thought this was meant to be just a lip product when I first saw it due to the shape of the tube and to be honest it stains the skin so quickly I don’t see how you could ever blend it out fast enough to use it on your cheeks and not end up looking like a clown! The stain seems to bond to the skin almost immediately leaving you just an almost clear fluid to move around on the surface. My swatch shows a fresh application, when I tried to blend this it paled down but the colour did not blend out at the edges or move.
Aussie Hair Care, 3 Minute Miracle Reconstructor Deep Conditioner, 20ml sample
I’ve never tried an Aussie product so I’m looking forward to giving this a bash and seeing if it helps my dry ends. My greasy roots are sorted with the L’Oreal clay mask and shampoo but I’m not sure that the conditioner in that set is really holding it’s own long term. This has great reviews online from my quick look on Boots and a couple of other sites so fingers crossed!
Not a bad box over all though it’s a bit odd to get sun protection for the body two months in a row, in a country that’s not renowned as being the sunniest of places! Maybe they’re thinking of holidaymakers? I would have preferred to see more make-up products from both this and Birchbox.
What did you get in your boxes this month?
