Birchbox x Millie Mackintosh July 2016

It’s that time of the month again, and my beauty boxes are starting to land! First to arrive this month was Birchbox who have collaborated with ‘Made in Chelsea’ star Millie Mackintosh for this summery pink box.

Birchbox x Millie

What’s In The Box?

This months box has two full size products which is quite unusual for Birchbox and also very welcome!

LOC x Millie, lip pencil in ‘Bohemian Rose’, full size RRP £9
LOC x Millie Mackintosh The shade of this surprisingly small lip crayon was chosen and named by Millie Mackintosh. It’s a pop of medium rose pink that should suit most skin tones, it’s nicely shiny but not overly glossy or sticky. It’s reasonably well pigmented too, my lips are quite red but they didn’t show through the pink even without the use of a liner.
If I had paid the suggested full price of £9 poundsLOC x Millie Swatch for this pencil I would be more than a bit miffed about how tiny it is though. From the teaser pictures I genuinely expected something roughly the size of a chubby stick.

John Frieda, Luxurious Volume 7 Day In-Shower Treatment, full size RRP £9.99

We were able to choose a few weeks ago between this and another John Frieda product. I chose this one as I have very fine, naturally flat hair so I’ve been quite excited to try this out! It’s a treatment you apply after your usual shampoo and conditioner concentrating on the roots, and it claims to temporarily make your hair appear thicker and fuller. Sounds right up my street! As my box only recently arrived obviously I can’t give this product any kind of proper review but if I find it to be either really good or really bad I’ll do an in depth product review for you all.

Nails Inc, nail varnish in ‘Belgrave Place’ 4ml sample
Nails IncI do like Nails Inc polishes so it’s always nice to add another to my collection, however, I’m not too sure about the royal blue shade that came in my box! I’m sure it will come in handy for nail art which I really must get back into doing some of. I’m glad it’s regular polish though and not any of the faux-gels that seem popular with brands at the moment as all of those that I’ve tried have been uniformly terrible, sorry!

Caudalie, Micellar Cleansing Water, 50ml sample
This is quite a pleasant smelling and, importantly, alcohol free micellar water. It has the helpful additions of grape water and chamomile extract and is suitable for vegans. It works quickly and effectively however I’m not sure I would switch to this product as the only advantage (for myself) over other cheaper alcohol free micellar cleansers is the fragrance. Sorry Caudalie!

Elemis, Hydra Boost Day Cream, 15ml sample
I’m a big fan of Elemis products as my regular readers already know so I’m always happy to try a new one! This one is right up my alley too, it’s a day cream with hyaluronic acid and vitamin E as well as starflower oil, myrtle and marsh samphire extract. The smell has an intriguingly tropical edge to it and the product sits nicely under make-up. I like that even the full size version of the product comes in a tube, so much more hygienic than dipping into a pot! The one thing I would say they are missing is an SPF…

No bonus product this month but if you’re wondering what the book in the picture is it’s ‘Made’ by Millie Mackintosh (plus Google and a ghost writer or 3). I really don’t recommend it, it recites several age old beauty myths eg. toners being for removing your cleanser and pores being able to open and close! Most of the beauty parts are only a page long each and are nothing you couldn’t find much more reliable information on via the internet. It also has quite a heavy focus on diet, exercise and, indirectly, thinness; so I wouldn’t recommend giving it to a young teen either. I had thought of doing a book review but it really would have turned into a rant on several fronts.
