I’m a little out of breath after such a long title! It’s pretty exciting stuff though, popular skincare brand Nip + Fab have released a make-up collection!
Naturally, as soon as I was well enough and able to pop down the shops and bag me some of their goodies I did so. I wanted to buy the foundation in person rather than online so I could choose the right shade for me. This is something I always recommend doing if possible. If necessary take a tiny pot with you to put a pump of the tester in to take away and try in daylight.
In my Nip + Fab haul were foundation, matching concealer, the eyeshadow palette, and travel palette. I received a gift with my purchase of a little cosmetics pouch with a liquid lipstick, lip liner and mascara inside. I have another one of these pouches to give away so keep reading to the end to find out how you can win it for yourself.
Foundation & Concealer
There are ten shades of foundation and six concealers plus foundation adjusting drops in light and dark.
For a new to make-up brand the shade range is really quite impressive. Their ten shades are well chosen and go smoothly from very light to quite a dark tone. They also have adjuster drops allowing you to change the shades to suit yourself a little more in terms of light to dark.
The foundation has a light to medium coverage and looks very natural, almost undetectable on the skin. I really enjoyed using it and will definitely be keeping it on my dressing table. Ten out of ten for this product, £12.95 for 30ml.
The concealer (£8.95) has a brush applicator which was the only drawback I could claim to find with it so far. I find them to be very unhygienic but I can get around this by putting it onto a palette and working with it from there. Aside from that the concealer is very full coverage and doesn’t let blemishes peek through.
This eye palette has 12 large pans in a selection of neutral hues. Two are shimmers, two are demi-mattes and the rest mattes. It is priced at £10.95.
The shadows are very blendable with about average pigmentation for the price. I found them quite easy to use and had no problems with staying power.
Some of the medium-brown shades were a bit too similar to be of much use and I would have preferred a little more variety and definitely more choice of transition shades which this palette is definitely short on. I doubt most people could tell some of these browns apart frankly! While the formula is pretty good, their shade choice requires some improvement.
I bought this in Light/Medium, it is also available in Medium/Dark. Both are priced at £9.95.
I actually preferred the more coral toned blush shade in the dark palette but would never get any use from the bronzer in that one. The bronzes in these are very pigmented and need to be used with a light hand for someone as pale as I am at the moment! Superdrug’s website says it’s meant to be a contour powder but it’s nowhere near the right tone for that – far too warm! It’s definitely best used as bronzer.
The powders are very soft and blendable although the highlight didn’t seem as finely milled as the other two. The blush in the light palette is a baby pink shade which I wasn’t sure went that well with the warm golden tones of the highlighter and bronze it’s sandwiched between. The highlight its self is a very natural looking when worn.
Liquid Lipstick & Liner
I didn’t think the nude colour in the bag would suit me but was pleasantly surprised to find it looked quite good. The lipstick dried down fully as we have come to expect from matte liquid lipsticks and stayed in place very well. It was also very comfortable – much more so than any of the other high street liquid lips that dry properly. Definitely a winning formula here and I can see these becoming their cult make-up product at the bargain price of £7.95
Disappointingly, and I suppose a reflection of current YouTube and Instagram based trends, is that there are no regular lipsticks in the collection at all. There are matching liners for each of the liquid lipsticks (and I still don’t think you need a lip liner with a liquid lipstick) though so if you really like a shade but don’t want it matte you could get the liner and put a clear gloss from elsewhere over it. The liners are the twist-up type and have a gadget to help keep the point sharp (though I never manage to figure those out) and cost £5.95 each.
This mascara has a fibre bristle wand – those are becoming something of a rarity these days! I always think mascara is very personal and mostly down to whether you get on with the wand more than anything else, if you like bristle wands maybe you’ll like this one. It’s priced at £9.95.
This was the complete look I created using all of these products plus an S&G SuperCat eyeliner, TopShop waterproof liner pencil & ABH dip brow to complete the look.
I used the concealer as eye primer as well as to create a cut crease. I’ll pop a close up of the eye look on Instagram for you.
Also Available in the Collection
Liquid colour correcting concealers; I wasn’t too impressed with these when I tried them in store. They have a brush applicator the same as the regular concealers but there is no way you would ever brush them straight on the skin without looking like a clown. They were very pigmented so only the tiniest amount would ever be needed and I would also suggest using them with regular brushes/sponges. I Overall I just don’t they’re very practical. The orange shade was particularly livid and would be of best use to those with dark skin – a win for women of colour for a change! Paler ladies might need to use the banana yellow or mix the two together for their under-eyes.
There is also a powder contour palette available in 3 tones, light, medium & dark. A highlighter palette reminiscent of the Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow palette, a blush palette with four shades of powder blush, 4 shades of brow pencil each with a spoolie on the other end, eye pencils also in four different shades and, last but not least two types of primer.
