Coloured Raine: The Queen of Hearts

I missed out on getting this at the first release as it never made it to Blighty but people who did get one liked it so much that Coloured Raine made the Queen of Hearts palette a permanent fixture.

Queen of Hearts

Isn’t she a beauty? I’ve been playing with her for a little while now so I thought I would tell you lovely lot all about it.  Continue reading

Easter 2016 Beauty Gifts

Don’t want to overload your rellies with chocolate this Easter Sunday? Looking for an Easter gift for a beauty addict who loves chocolate but refuses to eat it? How about some lovely Easter and chocolate themed beauty gifts instead?

Makeup Revolution, I ♡ Makeup ‘I Heart Chocolate – Vice’ £7.99
Released just in time for Easter this is the latest addition the popular I Heart Chocolate range of palettes. The palette contains 16 shimmer and matte shades encased in a dark chocolate version of their melted chocolate packaging. The peachy tones are sure to be popular this summer!

Zoeva, Cocoa Blend Palette £18
If you’re looking for something with more of a ‘grown up’ feel to it why not try the Cocoa Blend palette from German brand Zoeva. 10 gorgeous shades in an array of different finishes this is a taste of temptation for any make-up junkie. I particularly love the cranberry shades in this palette.

Too Faced, Melted Chocolate liquid lipsticks £19
Recent additions to the ‘Melted’ line of lipsticks this range of neutral brown shades is infused with cocoa powder and smell and taste of chocolate!
Available in six beautifully saturated chocolate inspired shades there’s sure to be one to suit you or whoever you have in mind.

Bath & Body Products

The Body Shop, Chocomania Body Butter £14/200ml
A rich body butter that smells good enough to eat! I’m a big fan of the body butters from The Body Shop I think they are one of their stand out products.

Cruelty free and with many fair trade ingredients this should go down a storm with your hippy best friend. Beware however as this is unfortunately not a vegan product as it contains both honey (listed as mel) and beeswax.

Lush Bath Bombs £2.95-£6.95

web_product_easter_golden_egg web_product_easter_fluffy_egg web_product_easter_humpty_dumpty

Lush have a range of seasonal bath bombs as well as a few other products including the Golden Egg, the Fluffy Egg and Humpty Dumpty as pictured here. All vegetarian and handmade.

Beauty Blender, Correct.Four Micro Mini Blenders £23
Deliciously egg shaped and brightly coloured but instead of eating these soft little eggs you use them to blend your make-up!

Use the colours as colour coding so you know which sponge is which and blend, blend, blend! These smaller versions of the regular beauty blender are designed for ease of use in smaller areas such as under the eyes and around the nose.

Next, Bunny Make-Up Bag £6

Super seasonally appropriate, who doesn’t love a cute bunny? Having somewhere cute to store my make-up while I’m out and about certainly does make me a “happy bunny” and I’m sure anybody who receives this will be too.

Bomb Cosmetics, White Chocolate Truffle glass candle £6.99

A luxuriant hand-poured candle made with a blend of essential oils for a real depth of fragrance, also available are Chilli & Chocolate and the more traditional Chocolate & Orange. Burns for up to 35 hours.
Look out for their Mad Hatter’s Tea candles each in a tea cup with a saucer – excellent for an Alice themed Easter party!

I hope I’ve given you all some great ideas for ways to replace those sugary (and often sadly low quality!) chocolate eggs this year. Will you be celebrating Easter this weekend?

Everyone in Bolton is just so friendly! People say ‘hello’ to you and offer to help you when you need it.
  2. What’s your favourite food?
I have to eat carefully in order to manage my gastro symptoms but I love all sorts of foods. Caribbean and Mexican flavours are my favourites, I love Haitian griyot, I love Mexican moles and tamales, Jamaican curry goat and ackee with salt cod.
  3. What’s you biggest insecurity?
My skin, I have terrible skin as a result of my medication. Yay for good foundation and concealer! It does mean that I am very discerning when it comes to concealer. A lot of the time people will be raving about a new concealer but they are usually people who really don’t need to conceal anything, good concealer is rare stuff especially for those of us on the ends of the shade scale.

Do several searches to check whether anyone is already using the name you’ve chosen or the matching #hashtag.
  8. Who inspires you the most in life?
Gosh that’s a hard one! I’ve always been the sort of person to go my own way, do my own thing and not really hero worship anyone or worry about what anyone else is doing. I take my inspiration from all kinds of different sources and imagery. Women I admire include musician and civil rights activist Nina Simone, make-up artist Lisa Eldridge, YouTube vlogger Jordan Bone and
  9. What do you do last thing at night before you go to sleep?
Skincare. Every day, I use a toner, serum and night cream. I keep a supply of skincare items in my bedside cabinet as well as on my make-up table as I never know when I’m going to have ‘one of those days’ where my body doesn’t want to co-operate.
  10. Where in the world would you most like to travel to and why?
Oh I have a huge list of places I want to go to! Most like to go I think would be Egypt to see the pyramids, tombs and Cairo museum as I have been obsessed with anything to do with ancient Egypt since I was a child and we covered Egypt at primary school. I won’t be taking any camel rides though!

#PledgeForParity – Women’s Day 2016

International Women's Day

International Women's DayToday is International Women’s Day.

Women’s day is a day to celebrate the achievements of women and recognise how far we have come but also to realise how far we have left to go. Many people fall into the trap of thinking we have “no need for feminism any more” and that “women are equal now”. Women may be equal in many aspects of law and in theory but certainly not in practice in the real world and certainly not in the hearts and minds of many.
It is an unfortunate fact that women are still not paid equally to their male counterparts, women still are not present in equal numbers in business or politics, women still lose their jobs because they get pregnant and globally women’s education and health care is worse than that of men. Women throughout the world suffer high rates of gender based and sexual violence leading to the deaths of two women per week at the hands of a violent partner in England and Wales alone. Women of colour and women with disabilities suffer proportionately more due to the intersections of race and disability.

The theme of this years Women’s Day is the Pledge for Parity, the idea is anyone and everyone can make a concrete pledge to take a step toward increasing gender parity. You can read about the pledge on the International Women’s Day website.

I have chosen the pledge to help women and girls achieve their ambitions. I think I can contribute toward this through my volunteer work with the HMSA and I also really want to volunteer with Look Good Feel Better once I’ve finished my course and help women whose appearance has been changed by cancer feel more confident again.

Coco ChanelI’ll leave you with a quote from the timeless Coco Chanel:

“A girl should be two things; who and what she wants”

Are you making a pledge for this Women’s Day? Have you posted a pledge selfie?
